Google offered consumers another reason to ditch their traditional landlines Wednesday by unveiling a service that lets them make free phone calls through its popular e-mail program.
The Mountain View search giant is allowing US users to place free calls domestically and to Canada through its Web-based Gmail service, using their computer's built-in speaker and microphone, or a headset.
It's the latest in a series of additions to Gmail that are increasingly transforming the service into an all-in-one communications tool where people can manage contacts, e-mail, chats, video conferencing and now phone calls.
"We're helping you organize your communications," said Vincent Paquet, product manager of Google Voice, the call-forwarding service that was linked to Gmail to create the new feature. "It's just an easy way for people to stay in touch with their friends and family and community."

If you receive a phone call on your Mobile from any person saying that they are checking your mobile line or going to give you some offer/ prize, and ask you to press #90 or #09 or any other number. End that call immediately without pressing any Number. There is a company in Pakistan that is using a device that once you press #90 or #09 they can access your SIM card and make calls at your expense. They are misusing it to make calls from Indian numbers. Forward this message to as many friends as u can, to stop it.

The iconic US cult bike maker Harley Davidson is set to enter Indian markets tomorrow, two years after it was first granted permission to start operations in the country. Sales will, however, begin only by 2010.
Harley Davidson was first granted permission to start operations in India in 2007 but it had to keep its plans in abeyance because of a crushing import duty of over 100 per cent. However, two years hence, the cruiser’s popularity seems to have far outweighed other considerations like price, which is expected to be multiples of lakhs.

Idea Cellular is using the interactive power of the digital medium to create an experience and showcase how a mobile call can lead a person to walk and become fit.
The telecom brand has developed a website, Walkwhenyoutalk.in; a Facebook application, ‘Walk when you talk’ and a virtual character, Zac, portrayed as a young, cool, smart, stylish and lethargic person, who chats on his mobile phone and wants to stay fit.
When users land on Walkwhenyoutalk.in, Zac introduces himself, “Hi, I am Zac, and I need to get fit and only you can help me get there.” The website then guides users on how they can help Zac to become fit. They are requested to log in to their Facebook account, add the ‘Walk when you talk’ application to their profile and register their mobile phone number with the application.
Once registered, the next step requires users to call Zac, available at +91-9011100130. The mobile call functions like an IVR system, wherein a caller has to choose an option among the different styles of ‘walk’, such as in the park, on the highway or on a treadmill.
